A F-100C Super Sabre of the 188th Tactical Fighter Squadron on a bombing run near Bien Hoa, South Vietnam, ca. mid-late 1968.
Although it is a unit within the New Mexico Air National Guard, 188th TFS was federalized following the Pueblo Incident in January 1968. In June of that same year, the squadron along with 250 maintenance and support personnel were deployed to Tuy Hoa Air Base, Republic of Vietnam. The unit flew over 6000 combat sorties in the F-100C Super Sabre and amassed over 630 medals and decorations during its time in Vietnam. Though these accolades didn't come without sacrifice; Captain Michael Adams was killed in action with Major Bobby Neeld and First Lieutenant Mitchell Lane being listed as missing in action. Overall, the unit received the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with a Bronze "V' for Valor. With the conclusion of its deployment, the 188th was relieved from active duty and returned to New Mexico State Control on 04 June 1969.
