10 reasons why I think it’s important to go through a custom fitting for your golf clubs.
1)Increased distance - This is a no brainer. Everyone is looking for distance. By changing your shaft or head or both you could pick up significant distance.
2)Better dispersion - Variety of reasons: length, lie, weight, club head or shaft.
3)Proper length clubs - Everyone is not the same height or has the same length arms. This can also have an effect on the weight of the clubs.
4)Correct loft and lies - The lies on your club can have an effect on ball flight as well as the loft. The lofts can also be off from OEM manufacturers. Getting them custom, makes sure they are spot on.
5)Better gaping - This is to make sure that the clubs you have in your bag give you the correct gap between each club. This may mean that you need to add a wedge, or take out a iron or add a hybrid or wood. Some places add a gaping session after your new clubs to get your carry numbers dialed in.
6)Ideal trajectory - Great fitters can make adjustments by changing club heads and shafts to help achieve the optimal spin that can help with trajectory. Trajectory can also be a technical swing issue but a great fitter can help optimize your trajectory.
7)Ideal weight - Getting the correct weight in your clubs can help with speed, dispersion and trajectory. As you get older, you tend to swing the club slower, so having lighter clubs would be helpful. This can also help with injury prevention.
8)Ability to use different brands - Working with a brand agnostic fitter gives you the ability to try multiple companies. They are getting you the clubs that work the best for your swing. Players like @bkoepka are brand agnostic.
9)Increased stopping power - If you increase stopping power, the ball will stop when it hits the green. This can either be by spin or by trajectory or both.
10)Peace of mind - This is pretty important for all golfers. Knowing that your clubs are fit properly and they go the distance you are expecting is very helpful. Also knowing what clubs in your current bag or good and which ones you need to replace. All of these things can lead to lower scores.
