It’s taken five years of winter squash growing to get my harvests under control 🥳 Every, single, bloody year I grow way too many! For the first time, I wasn’t like a kid in a candy shop when I sowed the seeds!
Butternuts were the first ever crop I grew, so I’ve got a huge amount of love for them. Five years ago I had no idea that other varieties even existed and managed to grow 45kilos of pure butternut 🤦♀️ (see last photo)
Thankfully I found this lovely community and all the weird and wonderful varieties! This year I’ve grown Festival, Harlequin, Squashkini, Invincible, Jack Be Little and Hurricane. These were all grown in the smallest bed I’ve tried to date, which has given me lots more room of other crops.
A goal this year was to grow more varieties overall, but less of each. Giving me room for new crops, varied harvests and food for winter that I won’t get bored of! Now I just need to remember that for next year and stop myself getting carried away!
