Review #26: IGOR- Tyler The Creator
Overall Grade: 9.4,A-
After two years, Tyler The Creator has finally released a new Album, “IGOR”. This album is different from his previous ones, and if you aren’t open to different genres of music beside Hip-Hop/Rap, don’t listen to this album. Yes it’s labeled at a Hip-Hip album, but it’s definitely not. The album has a lot of distorted sounds, electronic sounds, and also funk and soul sounds. Now we don’t really get a lot of rapping from Tyler, but that’s ok. Instead of lyrics, we get great production. The album has no listed features but it features a variety of artists from Playboi Carti, Pharrell, CeeLo Green, Charlie Wilson, and Kanye West. My favorite tracks would have to be “I THINK” & “ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?”. “I THINK” reminds me a lot of “Stronger” by Kanye West, mostly cause of the similar synths that are played in the background. “ARE WE STILL FRIENDS” has a 70s soul sound, like The Heatwave or The Defonics. Overall this is a very good album off of first listen, and it’s currently my Album of the Year.
Favorite Tracks: “IGOR’S THEME”, “EARFQUAKE”, “I THINK”, “RUNNING OUT OF TIME”, “A BOY IS A GUN”, “PUPPET”, “WHATS GOOD”, “GONE GONE/THANK YOU” & “ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?”
