16. Kevin Garnett
PLEASE NOTE: these are my opinions, and are not reflections of anyone else’s opinion. When ranking the top 50 players of all time, I take into account the era played in, overall competition, individual talent, and accomplishments.
Julius Erving is widely regarded as one of the greatest dunkers ever. He started off his career in the ABA, and was regarded as one of the best players in the world at the time. He was the biggest catalyst for the ABA-NBA merger. Many forget that Erving also won 4 MVP’s in his career. He led the league in scoring 3 times, and also won an NBA championship and 2 ABA championships.
Dirk Nowitzki is widely regarded as one of the greatest power forwards ever. Dirk revolutionized the Stretch Four position, and became one of the most unguardable players in the league because of his post fade away. Dirk started his career off with a horrible Mavericks team, and within a few years turned them into a consistent playoff contender. He was even able to lead the Mavs to the finals in 2006, and able to win the finals in one of the best playoff runs ever in 2011 against the Miami Heat Big 3. Dirk also won a league MVP in 2007. He’s also one of just a few players ever to break 30,000 career points.
Jerry West is one of the best point guard/shooting guards of all time. At his time, he was widely regarded as one of the best players in the league. Nowadays he gets hated on in an excessive amount because of his numerous finals losses. What people forget to remember though is that he had to play against the Celtics dynasty every year almost. While he never won an MVP, West was one of the best scorers and passers of all time.
