Stage 5 - Évora - Minas de São Domingos 163km
Today the middle and lower Alentejo were crossed and we were at the Algarve's doorstep, where we will enter tomorrow in the first kilometers. Between Évora and Minas de São Domingos the landscape has not changed much, except in the last few kilometers, with the approach to the Natural Park of the Guadiana Valley, with its small elevations with a yellowish hue pinned with holm oaks, corms and olive trees.
The majority of the participants rolled well during the whole stage, forming small "trains", with tail wind in the majority of the stage, and with a quite high average speed. Shortly after 2pm the first ones were already at Estalagem de São Domingos to enjoy a beautiful lunch and a fantastic view of the pool and lawn.
Joy and good disposition is a constant, but one already feels the pressure of the days, the weariness, the melancholy of the approach of the end of a great adventure along unknown Portugal. An adventure that filled our soul with great images, unique moments and experiences that we will not forget. The last stage will bring the arrival to the sea, almost remembering Camões ... "Here, almost top of head
Of all Europe, the Lusitanian Kingdom,
Where the land ends and the sea begins
And where Phoebus rests in the Ocean. "
Tomorrow ends the Ride Across Portugal 2019, with 99 km between Minas de São Domingos and Altura, with the finish line on Alagoa beach. In six days more than 800 km were riden through some of the best roads in Portugal for cycling.
Are you already thinking of 2020? We are. 😉
