“We must have courage to be imperfect while striving for perfection” - Patricia T. Holland.
I have to remind myself of this principle on the daily. I struggle with perfectionism. I have this urge to make sure everything is done right, complete, etc. However, when I fail, I feel it reflects my self-worth. I often have doubts of my capabilities, and the negative thoughts continue to fester and build. It gets to the point where I stop trying because I’m too scared to put my foot forward in fear of making another mistake. .
. However, this is NOT the way to live life. Thomas Edison, for example made the light bulb. Did you know it took him 1000 times to invent the brilliant light bulb? 1000 TIMES! While I struggle with perfectionism, I’ve realized that I cannot let fear get in the way. I know I am not perfect. I know I will make mistakes. However, if I preserve like Thomas Edison, I know I will go far in life. .
I need to take time to reflect on my mistakes so I can learn and grow. I cannot allow fear to take control of my life anymore. So please, if you’re like me, take the time to reflect on what you need to grow from your mistakes than let them hold you back anymore.
