Are you even a true Mid-Westerner if you are not standing outside while the tornado sirens are going off taking photos?
In my defense the sirens were not going off when the F3 hit us in 2013. In fact they stopped going off a few minutes before.
This evening, I did not realize until Max came down the hall with a puzzled look on his face over my lack of concern, that I can no longer hear the sirens while inside the house.....😶. Once my vertigo hit full force, we knew the pressure returned to normal and we were good, it was my sudden lack of vertigo that caused me to push my kids in the house, that ultimately saved our lives back in 2013. Thank God FOR Ménière’s disease.
Go bags on the couch were ready to grab to run downstairs. Since most of the time I was alone with the kids, when they were little I got them in the habit of packing one on bad weather days.
At one point Max and I were not sure if we saw debris in the sky, so that was a good time to head indoors.....after we watched whatever it was drift across the horizon.
We had to miss church, but being hopeful we wouldn’t, the nails were painted a awesome shade of Kraft Mac n’ Cheese orange to go with the fluorescent orange summer sweatshirt I was going to wear. I joked it would help search and rescue find me in the debris if we got hit.....but I knew that would not be necessary since I prayed that off of us.
Thankful that those we know made it home safe and their homes were all intact.
